DECIDING ON A MEDICAL ESTHETICS PROGRAM
Seven of the Most Important Questions to Ask Yourself -
1. Do I have the time to monitor the industry for trends & new developments?
- We do – we have a staff of experienced & highly qualified researcher
volunteers that are continuously revising our course study programs by adding on new information that is pertinent to the practice of clinical skin care & who keep our students & graduates on the cutting edge which makes them highly competitive with other providers of esthetic services.
2. Will I have the necessary professional support available if an on-the-job emergency situation occurs?
- Our graduates have instant access to an expert with years of field-tested experience that they can instantly turn to if something goes awry in the treatment process.
3. Do other course instructors have the same “honorable recognition status” in the field of esthetics & in the medical community as the founder of the Rayner Institute & the Center for Appearance & Esteem has?
- Some training programs come packaged in kits – without the need of an instructor who is a definitive expert in the topic being covered – medical esthetics cannot be administered in this fashion. Ms. Rayners biography identifies her as the leader and the most distinguished in the nation – Her professional history as the original pioneer of this field and as the author of the textbooks that have been used for over two and a half decades in beauty schools that teach her methods and double as treatment-manuals in clinical settings – as well as; her 12 year faculty associate status is on file as a matter of public record in every local library in the nation in the publication “Marquis Who’s Who of America & the World – a documented account of her expertise appears in not only the 59th but also the 60th editions – Ms. Rayner, a former burn survivor & cancer patient is listed as the definitive expert and the most accomplished in the field of medical esthetics. Through her accomplishments in this medical sub-specialty she has created a data trail of 25 years of actual patient care cases which students study worldwide, down to the last in-depth, most minute detail.
4. Do the other programs I am considering include in their training packages years of follow - up counseling after graduation?
- The goal of our certification training is to bring the field of medical esthetics to maturity by divulging the complexity of this work and to nurture & develop the careers and businesses of the best & the brightest of all the talent available. Our curriculums address the needs and the rights of the patients which are so badly neglected by less qualified esthetic practitioners. Our other, equally important objective is to protect and safeguard the reputations of the physicians in their own communities whom our graduates become affiliated with professionally. We offer
seven certifications that reflect each and every component pertinent to the work. At the completion of our programs our graduates are tested & all examinations are proctored by highly, influential members of the medical community in our graduate’s local jurisdictions.
5. Why should I consider this particular educational approach over another?
- Our institutes encourage students of medical esthetics to take another look at the practice of clinical skin care to gain a different point of view – more from the perspective of a patient requiring their services. We focus on “esthetic intelligence” – knowing that the actual knowledge required for the work extends far beyond the operation of equipment and the merchandising of products – because of our vast experience in five different treatment environments (that include esthetic divisions for burn centers and teaching hospitals as well as private practice) we are aware of the serious performance issues that can transpire behind treatment room doors and that require more of a thorough background in the critical reasoning skills necessary to systematically conduct a needs assessment and predetermine an inevitable outcome.
- In terms of incentives - we prepare our students as practice associates & interventionists to dermatologists, surgeons, other related health care facilities & medi-spas, to be fully job-ready and to immediately spot red flags that could potentially, if not readily identified, lead to liability problems. In addition, we also strongly emphasize counter indications of specific medical therapies that closely mimic cosmetic sensitivity to reduce the incidences of product returns. In terms of benefits we provide a legitimate record of competency that can be traced back to a creditable source that is beyond reproach. The information contained in our programs has been inspected by four different agencies for regulatory compliance and is endorsed by the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Board of Registered Nursing & the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for accuracy and authenticity as well as relevance in income development. When our students graduate from our course studies they have a legal record on file of their competency for a period of no less than five full years. In terms of threats we are acutely aware that anti-aging patients who are paying premium prices for treatments and services out of their own deep pockets are generally mature, high wage earners, college educated and frequent users of the Internet which makes them more demanding when it comes to “getting their moneys worth” & more cynical than typical client types. When these patients come to a medical practice for esthetic treatments they expect to be attended to by highly qualified professionals not inadequately trained personnel with only basic knowledge of skin care procedures comparable to what they would expect from a service provider in a salon or a department store cosmetic counter.
6. Will another program offer to partially finance my education?
- No student is admitted into our programs without being given a partial scholarship. Because we are willing to invest in their training, we carefully screen all potential candidates by requesting that they submit their five year career plan to our admissions board for evaluation of their objectives to prevent discrepancies in their expectations. Since the institute does not market books, teaching aids, products or sell any equipment, the only evidence of our worth in the marketplace is through the evaluation of our graduate’s clinical knowledge and their superior job performance. To ensure our students have on hand the necessary desk reference materials that they can easily resource when asked for information beyond the scope of their training we provide a complete in-house library for their easy reference to be used in their treatment rooms. We also pay for all mailing fees, all educational materials – textbooks, workbooks, working manuals, classroom videos and private tutor fees.
7. Why should I elect to participate in distance learning rather than attend a classroom-based seminar session?
- In short, if you are going to venture into a new field of endeavor especially if you plan to be part of a medical team, you will require more than just a light overview of the work. To gain the trust of the physicians and other members of the staff you cannot lose sight of the basics. The vast majority of classroom instruction is limited in its depth of relevancy to the actual one-on-one care of everyday care of cosmetic patients. On-site courses tend to focus on device and product driven training and if the machinery is of a different make and model – the training becomes irrelevant later on. A certain amount of free hands-on training must be provided on-site by the manufacturer of skin care equipment and products or there could be future allegations of negligence if something were to go wrong in the operation of the device or with the application of the formulation. To be adequately prepared for treatment room therapies and the unexpected problems that can arise, sound, instructional logic is required. It takes time to process new knowledge and to convert it intellectually into actions. Clinical esthetic procedures demand a more effective and responsible system – one that is clearly understood and is carefully sequenced. Distance learning enables students to set up individualized, treatment objectives & to overcome difficulties they encounter by retrieving privileged information they obtained through the course – facts that they committed to memory and are forever stored in the recesses of their minds. Distance learners must adhere to disciplines inherent in this comprehensive method of education and therefore, have a prime advantage over others whose education is limited to the mere physical component of the work. Expressed another way, distance learning is not inferior to on-site training. It incorporates just about any training delivery system that does not require students to gather together at a particular place or a particular time. When students are awarded the opportunity to work at their own pace and on their own schedule and during periods when they are most alert and responsive – they enjoy the learning experience more and gain more merit from it. To ensure their understanding and retention of the course study information, our students are tested on a weekly basis by their own test-prep tutors.
